Ben and Jen are good friends to Dwayne and I.  Jen actually played a bit of a role in getting Dwayne and I together.  See, she worked two jobs the summer Dwayne and I started dating.  One with me, and one with him.  I confided in her that I had a wee little crush on Dwayne, and Dwayne asked her if she thought I'd go out with him.  She thought I would.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Ben and Jen celebrated their two year wedding anniversary this August.  They decided to mark those two years with a photo session with me.  Two years of marriage may not sound like much, but it is definitely something to celebrate!  That is two years of good days and bad days. Two years of leaving wet towels on the floor.  Two years of dirty dishes on the counter.  Two years of someone steeling the covers, someone snoring, or someone talking in their sleep.  Two years of fighting over the remote.  It's also two years of cuddling on the couch.  Two years of going for walks to get ice cream.  Two years of weekend camping trips.  Two years of love, period.  Sure marriage has its ups and downs, but as long as there are more ups, there's always something to celebrate!!!

Congratulations Jen and Ben on two years.  Here's to another 52!!!

September 2, 2009 //
Just wanted to say a quick thanks to all of you who keep coming back to check out my blog.  Thanks for coming back, again and again, even though there's not always something new to see.  I've been so busy shooting and editing, blogging sometimes gets put on the back burner.  For those of you whose sessions I haven't blogged, it's either because I'm behind or forgot to ask your permission!!!

September is here, and it's no less busy than August.  I'm entirely booked up for this month.  AND I'm only 22 days away from my trip to Seattle and Edmonton, which I am super excited about.  Those 22 days are going to fly by, with many portrait sessions and weddings to fill them up!

October is almost full, but there's still a little bit of room if you hurry!  Contact me at info@kararheaphotography or by phone 204-362-8044.

Thanks again!  And because a blog post is boring without a photo, here's what I'm working on today.

August 31, 2009 // Travel
In 2001, I spent my first summer in Sioux Narrows, working in the restaurant at the Rod and Reel Resort.  My friend Naomi had seen an ad in the paper, and after working there a month or two convinced me I should be there too.  Sioux Narrows, the local people, and the Motlong family changed my life.  This became my home away from home for the next few summers.  And after I stopped working there each summer, I would visit, and each time I would cry as I drove out of that town, away from my second family, and my second home.  What was it about this place?  It was magical.   Lake of the Woods is hands down one of the most beautiful places in the world.  No, I haven't seen the entire world.  However, I've seen a good portion of Canada, along with 14 other countries, and feel I'm qualified to judge!  I used to love my morning walks across that bridge, especially in the early and late summer when the sun would still be rising as I'd walk to work.  I loved jumping in the lake during work breaks, and jumping in again the moment work was done.  I loved sitting near the water and listening to the sounds as it lapped up on the beach.  I would walk the same road through the trees, over, and over, and over, and it never got old.

I was fortunate enough to find some time this summer to get out to Sioux Narrows with some of my best girl friends.  It seems to get harder and harder to get everyone together, but those of us that could make it had an incredible time.  We ate good food, drank cheap wine, and talked til all hours of the night.  We sat in the hot tub at night, and swam in the refreshing cool waters of the lake during the day.  We ate fresh fish (thanks Darcy!) and drank cold beer by the beach.  I left feeling recharged, and ready to take on the rest of what summer has to throw at me.  And this time, I didn't cry.

This is Sioux Narrows, through my eyes. Oh, and the little yellow sheep like guy is Mort.  He's our mascot.... it's a long story!!!

Great photos Kara. Can't believe I haven't been there with you yet. Something to consider for summers to come. I think you should start posting/citing your music choices for your slideshows...i always enjoy it and often don't know who is singing.

Cara and Brad hired me for their September wedding based on what Cara saw in my photos.  I know that makes perfect sense, but it doesn't always work that way.  Cara had been looking through on line wedding sites and was able to define what her style is, and found it in me.  I was happy to know we were on the same page!  When I arrived at their home out in the country, in an area I'd never really explored, Cara had every location picked out.  We took a little drive to check things out, and I was super impressed.  We were more than on the same page, she totally understood and shared my vision.  I'm not sure Brad really understood either of us, but hey, he was a good sport!   Hopefully we'll have him convinced after he sees these!!!

Brad and Cara, thanks for a great (if mosquito filled) evening out in the wide open country.  And thanks for being up for anything!!   I enjoyed getting to know you a bit, and can't wait for the wedding!
