Sean and Melissa... what can I say about these two!?  It's not very often I have a bride that's ready LONG before the groom arrives!  Melissa runs a tight ship.  She was even in her wedding dress before I arrived, I got there just in time for a few photos of her Mom helping to zip it up.  As we waited for Sean she was so happy and excited, it was incredibly sweet.  And as she dared to peek out the living room window who happened to drive by and nearly see her?  Yes, of course, it was Sean... I've never seen a bride hit the deck like that, and I'm sure nobody else could have done it so fast!  It was probably the highlight of the day for me.. hilarious!

I was so happy these two chose to see each other before the wedding.  It was such a tender moment when Melissa walked up and tapped Sean on the shoulder.  I don't think there was a dry eye to be found.  I love how Melissa's mom is way in the background of those photos, spying on these two as they share their big moment.

Sean and Melissa's wedding was a perfect day.  Perfect despite the clouds threatening rain all afternoon.  Perfect though they had to make the decision to move their outdoor ceremony indoors.  It was perfect because these two are so very perfect for each other.

We absolutely love the pictures, Kara! You did amazing job capturing all of those special moments from the day. When I looked through the pictures I got the same butterflies I did when I was walking up to see Sean for the first time. Thanks for everything. We love them.

Well folks, turns out it can't be sunny every Saturday of summer.  That's just the way it goes.  I hope and pray every night before a wedding that I will get a beautiful day, and more importantly that the couple will get a beautiful day for their wedding.  Turns out not every prayer can be answered.  I think God has a way of knowing who can handle it.

The morning of Wayne and Carilee's wedding it was already misty outside.  I met the girls at the salon around noon and it looked like it could go either way.  Carilee was positive, and didn't seem the least bit stressed.  The day continued on, and so did the rain.  When it was time to meet her groom, Carilee opted to go with the original plan, meeting Wayne down a pretty little path amongst the trees.  There she stood, a blanket under her feet so her dress wouldn't get muddy and an umbrella in hand.  She waited patiently, the mist just light enough that I could still shoot, and heavy enough that I needed a plastic bag to cover my camera.  When Wayne came around the bend, you could tell the last thing either of them was thinking about was the rain!

Our day wasn't without improvisation, since the rain came down heavier at times.  I want to give a HUGE thank you to the folks at Hillside Greenhouse of Morden for allowing us free reign of their building for a little while!  We were able to get some gorgeous shots despite the weather thanks to them!!  We used one other covered location and ventured out into the mist a couple times throughout the day to complete our photo session.  Over all, I think it was a huge success!

Thanks Wayne and Carilee for being such good sports.  Rain isn't something anyone wishes for on their wedding day, but I loved how you didn't let it get you down for a second.  This day was about your union, and nothing was going to ruin that!!!

Oh, and a special thanks to Tide to go!  We could make a commercial based on Carilee's muddy, flower dyed dress and how Tide saved the day!!!!

July 9, 2010 // Engagement
I met Anna few years back when we worked together.  I was waitressing full time, back when photography to me was rolls and rolls of film and dreams of being the next photographer for National Geographic.  Anna was my go to girl for an after work dance party in the banquet room followed by apple pie and ice cream.  Fun times!  Anna's the kind of girl you just can't help but love.  She's got such a fun fiery personality.  She's gorgeous inside and out!!!  We don't cross paths often these days, so I was more than thrilled when she contacted me to photograph her wedding.  She was super busy with school over the winter, so we hadn't finalized any details but I wasn't worried about it.  Turns out she was the one that should have been worried!  I didn't expect to be 8+ months pregnant for her upcoming late October wedding.  As soon as I got the wonderful news, I had to break the news to her.  As excited as I obviously was to be pregnant, I was so disappointed that I wouldn't be able to be Anna's photographer.  Anna graciously asked me if I would still capture she and James for their engagement photos and of course I was honored!  We had such a fun time.  We headed out to Anna's parents home in the country and explored the yard.  I'd have to say my favorite part was our visit with the sheep!!!!

Sorry Anna, I just had to blog this one!  This is Anna freaking out over the wood ticks in the grass.... a natural reaction for most people, but I found it so funny that a girl that can snuggle sheep and just graduated as a animal health technician is afraid of something as teeny tiny as a tick!

Randy and Michelle were married back in April.  They totally made me jealous by going to New Zealand for their honeymoon...  I wish!!!  I've been to New Zealand and it definitely stole my heart, and I'm guessing they loved it just as much as I did.  What a great place to go for a honeymoon, I totally agree with going BIG for your honeymoon.  When's the next time you'll have such a perfect excuse to go anywhere in the world that you want?!?!?!

Here's a bit of Randy and Michelle's day.  Michelle was an absolutely gorgeous bride, but that was no big surprise to any of us!!!

All the best to you both, I wish you many, many years of marriage bliss!!!!

I dated my fair share of Mr. Wrongs before I met my Mr. Right.  They were all different, but all the same in that they were not the right fit for me.  It always took me a while to figure that part out too, but then I would see men who looked at their girlfriends or wives like they were the only girl in the room... and I knew I wanted more.  It didn't matter how many car doors were opened for me, how many times I was picked up from work, or surprised with flowers, nobody was good enough.  Why?  Because nobody looked at me like THAT.

That's how Chris looks at Tania, like he can't figure out how he got so lucky, like she's the only woman in the world and she just so happens to have chosen him.  Every woman deserves a man that looks at her like that.  Even better... she looks at him that way too!

Here's a peek at Chris and Tania's gorgeous wedding day.  She was an absolutely stunning bride!  Their slideshow is here.

My friend Anna Borys came along to second shoot for me again, and I'm also in love with this image she captured.  I love how it accepted my yellow tone as if it were meant to be!
I love having a second shooter with me.  It allows for more variety in the final images.  While I was shooting a couple quick photos of Chris...

It seems so much of what I talk about lately is the weather!  Well, in this business, it's hard not to.  The forecast this weekend was not looking good, to say the least.  James and Ashley reacted to the weather way better than I would expect of most bride and grooms.  We embraced the day that we could not change, and made the most out of it.  The misty rain didn't wash away their excitement, it didn't stand a chance!

July 15, 2009 // Wedding
The morning of Alicia and BJ's wedding I was afraid to look out the window as I rolled out of bed.  The weather in June had been undesirable, to say the least.  All I wanted was a day with no rain.  I covered my eyes as I pushed the blinds away, peering between my fingers, with just one eye open, I was so relieved.  SUN!  Amazing.

I started out this gorgeous day with a nice drive and a cup of tea, excited to be out on the open road, with a wedding before me.  I had a great day with Alicia and her bridesmaids, and later on with BJ and the rest of the wedding party.  Alicia and BJ didn't seem to be the overly emotional types, so it was extra special when they teared up during the ceremony.  A little tug at my heart...

A special thanks to my friend Amanda for coming out to be my second shooter for the day!

Here's the long awaited sneak peek of Alicia and BJ's big day!!  For a few more photos, a short slide show can be found here.

Every engagement session I do is just a little bit different.  Every couple has their unique way of interacting with each other, their own special language.  Harvey and Jenesa were no different.  The way they look at each other just makes my heart melt.  I watched as they talked with their eyes, a secret language only they could understand.  I can't wait for the wedding day, and what those eyes will say...

Harvey and Jenesa both grew up in the country, and one of the first locations they suggested for our session was at the very top of a silo.  Never one to turn down a unique photo op, I was in!  Some 70 steps later, we were at the top of the world... or Shanzenfeld at least!  What a view!  I am a prairie girl through and through, and that view was breathtaking (or maybe that was the altitude, we must have been 85 feet up!).

Thanks Harvey and Jenesa for a very fun and unique evening!
