About
Hi, my name is Kara Wieler.  I am a Southern Manitoba Photographer specializing in wedding/portrait/fine art photography and based in Winkler, Manitoba.   This blog was created so that I could have a place to showcase my work, my passion.  Every image holds a place in my heart.  Take a look around and get a feel for who I am, and how I see.   Please feel free to leave comments or contact me if you are interested in booking me for your next photo session in Southern Manitoba.
I'm sure you all are getting tired of me talking about the weather, but seriously, it rules my life!  Layne, Al and I rescheduled their engagement shoot TWICE!  I'm not sure if that builds up the excitement or if it does the exact opposite.  Either way, I was ecstatic when the day of our third attempt turned out to be beautiful!!  With the exception of the mosquitoes, of course!  Well, beggars can't be choosers right?!?

I met Layne at Kirsten and Mike's wedding.  She contacted me shortly there after to meet up and discuss her own upcoming wedding.  I met up with she and Al in their home and we chatted about weddings, how they met, what they liked to do, the excitement of being new home owners...  I had a great time chatting with them like we were old friends.  The engagement shoot was no different.  I had so much fun with these two!!

Layne and Al will be married next August. For their engagement slideshow Click Here.

October 16, 2009 // Engagement
I met Shawn and Colleen for the first time over coffee at Starbucks.  Right away I loved how easy they were to talk to.  Sometimes I meet with couples and I find it a bit awkward, or difficult, to make conversation.  It's sort of like dating, this business of me looking for clients and them looking for a photographer.  It's like dating because we are trying to find a connection, something to make us feel closer, something that will make it more comfortable for me to have my camera in their faces and to barge into their homes and photograph one of the most personal days of their lives.  I encourage my clients to shop around and find someone with not only a style that they love, but someone they can trust.  It's so important to have that trust with your photographer, because they work best if they can do their thing and be creative and are given lots of freedom.  My favorite clients are the ones who book me because they love what I do, and trust me to do just that!  Shawn and Colleen fit the part.  We met up in downtown Winnipeg for their engagement shoot, and they just let me do my thing.  These two are super sweet and made me feel so comfortable.  I love when my job can be so easy!

Shawn and Colleen's wedding is in August 2010.  I can't wait to spend the day with them and capture every sweet moment.

So life is slightly more than a little bit crazy right now.  Amidst all the weddings, engagement sessions, family sessions, child sessions, maternity sessions, back to school sessions, and newborn sessions, I am also in the process of building a new house, searching to buy a comfortable car (all this driving is bringing out the worst in the hyundai!), going to Seattle next week for a mentorship session, and going to Edmonton next weekend for a wedding.  Oh, and somewhere in there I need to try (and trying doesn't always mean succeeding  unfortunately) to also be a good friend, sister, daughter, grand daughter, and wife!

That said, I am making a huge, HUGE effort to make sure everyone's photos are finished when they should be finished, but hope that everyone will understand if this doesn't quite happen.  As much as I want to be on time, I also want to deliver a quality product.  I appreciate everyone's patience more than words can express!  It's been a whirlwind of a year, and for my first year as a full time photographer I'm still learning exactly how much I should take on at once!

Here's a little sneak peek of an engagement session I had with Kerry and Sheila last week.  Just one pic to wet your appetite!

Thanks for stopping by!

September 13, 2009 // Engagement
The day of Brian and Angie's Engagement session was a little gift from Mother Nature!  I had a session booked with their good friends Al and Layne the day before, that was rained out, as was Al and Layne's rain date the day after.  But for Brian and Angie, the sun shone and there was only a few wispy white clouds in the sky.  Perfection.

Here's a few images from their day, and a little slideshow to go with it!!

Cara and Brad hired me for their September wedding based on what Cara saw in my photos.  I know that makes perfect sense, but it doesn't always work that way.  Cara had been looking through on line wedding sites and was able to define what her style is, and found it in me.  I was happy to know we were on the same page!  When I arrived at their home out in the country, in an area I'd never really explored, Cara had every location picked out.  We took a little drive to check things out, and I was super impressed.  We were more than on the same page, she totally understood and shared my vision.  I'm not sure Brad really understood either of us, but hey, he was a good sport!   Hopefully we'll have him convinced after he sees these!!!

Brad and Cara, thanks for a great (if mosquito filled) evening out in the wide open country.  And thanks for being up for anything!!   I enjoyed getting to know you a bit, and can't wait for the wedding!
